There’s no denying it: chatGPT took the content creation world by storm. As more people started accepting the GPT framework as the next big thing in content creation, we started seeing dozens of tools using it to create AI writers of their own.
One such tool that helps you create engaging high-quality content at lightning speed (figuratively) is Writesonic. In this detailed Writesonic review, we will explore what Writesonic is, who developed it, its target audience and key features. We will also compare Writesonic with some of its famous competitors like Jasper and CopyAI while considering its pros and cons.
What is Writesonic?
Writesonic is a powerful AI-based writing tool that assists content creators, marketers, and businesses in generating great written content quickly and efficiently. Utilizing advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, this tool aims to enhance the content writing process by providing suggestions, generating content, and optimizing text for various writeups such as blog posts, ads, social media content, and more.
Writesonic is marketed as one of the most holistic AI marketing tools as it not only helps create written content but also generates AI images from text inputs. Additionally, its ChatSonic tool acts as a super-charged version of ChatGPT for content creators, setting it apart from all other AI writers on the market. Writesonic has separate templates for both short-form and long-form content that can help you create content for blogs, emails, social media, landing pages, product pages and more.
There's no denying that this tool offers some features that no other AI tool currently does on the market. And in this article, we’ll try to explore whether that makes it worth the price.
Who Developed Writesonic?
This app was developed by Samanyou Garg, who is the founder and CEO at Writesonic. In 2019, he graduated with a Computer Science degree from the University of Manchester.
In October 2020, Samanyou laid the foundations of Writesonic by creating a landing page generator based on GPT-3.
This tool caught the attention of many, which skyrocketed it to fame in the industry. Samanyou took this as proof of concept and began developing the famous Blog Writer tool on Writesonic which was launched in January 2021.
Recently, Samanyou has been inducted into the Forbes 30 under 30 in the Asia category. At the time of writing, Writesonic has seen big growth and has been backed by Y Combinator, an AI acceleration program. Additionally, they have received over $2.6M in total funding to date.
Who is Writesonic Aimed at?
Writesonic is for anyone who wants to write short-form or long-form content for the web. This tool helps generate SEO-optimized content quickly, which makes it great for freelance writers. Additionally, it can be used by content agencies for streamlining the AI content creation process and ensuring that they maintain high content quality standards.
Writesonic is also aimed at marketers and small businesses due to the plethora of copywriting tools that it offers. In particular, their Facebook Ads Writer is a tool that marketers love.
This tool also has a number of e-commerce templates for writing product descriptions and headlines.
In short, Writesonic can be used by anyone who wishes to create high-quality SEO-optimized content for the web, including writers, marketers, agencies, e-commerce, and small businesses.
An Intro to Writesonic
Writesonic is probably the most holistic and powerful AI writing assistant on the market right now. Although it started off as a tool to write plagiarism-free SEO-optimized copy; today, it also has the ability to create AI-generated images for content and much more.
Additionally, it has an extremely unique ChatSonic feature. If you don’t know what that is, then it’s kind of like ChatGPT… on steroids. They have taken the best parts of ChatGPT and polished its responses to aid content creation.
In summary, this tool can help you create blog posts, emails, social media posts, ads, landing pages, e-commerce listings, product descriptions and so much more!
An Honest Writesonic Review
To review the tool in detail, let's walk you through its interface and plethora of available templates and features.
Once you create an account on their website and log in, you will be greeted by a very clean UI that lays out all the “Templates” that Writesonic offers.
Currently, they have over 86 templates that you can use to create awesome AI content. Since we can’t possibly review all 86, I’ll be talking about 3 templates that stood out to me the most: the AI Article Writer, Chatsonic and Photosonic.
AI Article Writer (Long-Form Content Generator)
I tested the AI Article Writer 5.0 template on Writesonic and was amazed by the quality of its output. This tool created an entire article for me within seconds!
The AI writer generates content in 2 easy steps. In the first step, all you do is provide the title of your article and Writesonic finds reference articles for it from the Internet.
Once it fetches a list of competitors, you can select only the most relevant ones to ensure that the content Writesonic generates for you is on-point. The best part of this selection process is that Writesonic gives you an estimate of how many words it will be able to generate based on the number of words your shortlisted reference articles have written.
This way, you can unselect competitors that have written excess content so the AI doesn’t waste too many “premium words” from your package (more on packages later in the article.)
Once you shortlist and finalize your reference articles, you move to step 2 where Writesonic just writes the whole article for you. It’s that easy!
In the example below, I gave it the following topic: How to Sell Low Content Books on Amazon KDP and only selected 2 competitors that each had around 1500 words of content.
Writesonic came back with an awesome 1062-word article, complete with a suggested featured image from a free stock image site.
The article covered all major aspects of selling low-content books on Amazon KDP including details about coming up with ideas for the book, writing, formatting, and marketing.
In the screenshot below, on the lefthand column, you’ll find a few different options such as tone of voice and keywords. As per our testing, the tone of voice feature works very well. However, the Keywords feature could improve by making keyword usage more natural. So I’d recommend optimizing for keywords manually once you have the first draft of content.
You can also open your blog in the Sonic Editor; this is Writesonic’s custom editor that offers you the ease and intuitiveness of Google Docs topped with the power of Writesonic’s AI features.
Opening the content in the Sonic Editor allows you to format, edit and enhance the content as required. In particular, I really liked the feature that allows you to insert or internal and external links using AI. Using this feature, you can highlight any text in the article and receive internal and external link suggestions for it.
This feature saves you a lot of time that would otherwise be wasted in manually selecting the right links to insert in your content.
Just like most of its competitors, Writesonic allows you to select text and expand, summarize or rephrase it. And it does a good job of that!
All in all, I’d say that Writesonic’s Blog Writer is probably the most hands-off AI blog writer on the market right now.
Chatsonic (Works Like ChatGPT)
Although there are dozens of AI writers on the market, many bloggers have been sticking to ChatGPT for content writing. However, ChatGPT does have a few drawbacks:
- Can only receive text-based input
- Can only offer text-based output
- Has limited knowledge of the world post-2021 (at least for the time being)
Chatsonic is for people who want a ChatGPT-like experience without all these drawbacks. This tool works exactly like ChatGPT but has access to real-time data. Additionally, you can give voice commands and simply speak your input without needing to type it. What’s more, it not only writes great content but can generate custom digital artwork like DALL-E!
You get some great results from the chatbot for tasks that require intensive research. In the below example, I instructed Chatsonic that I’m starting a new website in the aquarium niche and asked for a list of topics/categories that I should divide my blog posts into.
This is what it came back with.
A great feature of this tool is that it offers a list of reference articles at the end. These reference articles help you explore the topic in greater detail, should you wish to dive deeper into it.
Photosonic (for AI Art)
Now, let’s talk about Photosonic, which arguably, sets this tool apart from the competition. While most AI writers focus on written content only, Writesonic also helps you generate images using AI. You can simply offer this tool a written input and it creates different versions of AI-generated images for you.
In the example below, I used the following input: “Hyper-realistic photo of a chimpanzee, taken by a photographer for national geographic.”
What Photosonic produced just blew my mind!
Once you have chosen the image of your choice, you can click it and upscale (increase its size).
You can probably achieve the same results with something like DALL-E. But there’s no denying that having this tool built into a writer like Writesonic definitely eases the process of content creation.

Writesonic Alternatives
In the competitive landscape of AI writing tools, Writesonic faces competition from similar platforms such as:
- Jasper
- CopyAI
- Rytr
However, if I had to pick one tool that would help me write great content the quickest, then it would probably be Writesonic. This tool can help with every step of content creation from writing the content to formatting, inserting links, generating relevant images and more!
However, if all you want is to write content, then you may consider investing in something like Jasper for the quality of content that it offers. All in all, the best AI writing tool for you really depends on your individual needs.
Writesonic Pricing
Writesonic has a slightly confusing pricing structure. On the face of it, they have 3 plans: Free trial, Pro and Enterprise. Most people use Writesonic with a pro plan.
However, they offer two different qualities for their paid plans:
- Premium (based on GPT 3.5)
- Superior (based on GPT 4)
The amount you pay depends on the quality that you choose.
If you’re just starting out, then I’d recommend testing the Premium quality first because it costs roughly 3 times lesser than Superior.
Once you have decided on the quality that you’d like, you can estimate the number of words you’d be needing per month and adjust the size of your plan accordingly.
At the time of writing, Writesonic charges $12.67 per month for 100,000 words and allows you to have 1 user in this plan.
Do keep in mind that these 100,000 words will include both the words generated and analyzed. So, if it writes a 2000-word blog post and analyzes 5 competitor articles who have written 2000 words each, the total number of words used in this process will be 12000!
On average, I’d say a 100,000-word plan will help you write around 7-10 long-form articles which brings the cost down to around $1-2 per blog post. Those are some amazing numbers!
If you adjust the scale to 300,000 words per month (which should help you churn out 1 detailed blog post every day), then you only need to pay $32.67 at the time of writing. Additionally, you can add up to 5 users in the 300,000-word plan.
